Zimmermann's Lady Beetle

Cephaloscymnus zimmermanni zimmermanni

This species has two subspecies, but only one occurs in eastern North America. The other subspecies, Cephaloscymnus zimmermanni australis, is found in the southwestern U.S. and northern Mexico.

Sticholotidinae

Cephaloscymnus

zimmermanni

This species was named in honor of the 19th-century entomologist C. Zimmermann (I'm still tracking down his first name) by his colleague George Robert Crotch.

Size: 2.15 - 2.4 mm

Food: Poorly known; possibly scale insects

Habitat: Poorly known

Range: New Jersey to South Carolina, west to Indiana and Kentucky

Similar species: The large head and short, broad pronotum are unlike any other species in eastern North America
